What were some of your favourite books, movies and television shows as a child?
My favourite movies were the LION KING, CINDERELLA & SNOW WHITE :)! I don't remember having a favourite book.. I probably did have one, but I can't remember what it was. woops. annnd my favourite tv shows were SPONGE BOB (still is my fav) and um, I don't know. anything on the family channel I guess. I don't really know how any of the shows/movies influenced the person that I am today though.. Snow White taught me not to take apples from strangers.. and Cinderella taught me NOT to deal with an evil step-mom. :)

Is it important for cultures to protect themselves from outside media influence?
Um.
In my opinion, you should protect some of your culture from things, but maybe not everything. If you want to listen to Eminem or watch the Simpsons, then go ahead and do it. If you want to watch American news, go ahead, but don't forget about your own country/culture. You don't need to go and listen to Nickelback or Justin Bieber but at least watch the news from your own country. Find out about all the interesting things going on in Canada. :)
and k if you're from somewhere where women "aren't" supposed to be showing off their bodies.. I think you should wear something that makes you feel good, but don't go wearing a crop top and short-shorts. I think you should be influenced by outside media, but have respect from your own culture still.

My encounter in the last two days with popular colture would be with my BABY (blackberry. that I can't live a day without), musiiiicc<3 and the televsion.
I watched One Tree Hill last night and it was amazing like it always is :). but I think everyone in this class would disagree because you all suck! (jk) :) and tonight is JERZDAY! yaaayy for stupid tv shows! and of course like everyone else, I can't live a day without my iPod. I NEED MUSIC.
ummm. oh and me & B played XBOX Kinect the other day and now we can hardly move because we're so sore. yup, we're out of shape. loserssss.

Why are mass media important to you?
Mass media is important because it connects you with the world.. without the news, you wouldn't know about stuff everywhere else in the world. Without facebook, you wouldn't be able to talk to people that you knew like 10 years ago! life would be dull :( hahah. If I didn't have my baby (blackberry), I wouldn't be able to call AND text at the same time! :O
